Detroit Lions Tickets
Since the early days of football, Detroit has had a reason to celebrate. Motor City factory workers could go home on Sundays and root for the Lions. The team has kept its fans entertained throughout the decades, and though they've gotten tantalizingly close, the Detroit Lions have spent most of their history just out of reach of a prized trip to the Super Bowl. However, that's never kept fans from proudly wearing blue, black, and white and faithfully cheering them on every season. Purchase your Detroit Lions tickets today!
Detroit Lions HistoryDetroit is unique in having had a lineage of several football teams before the Lions first roared. In 1920, the city's football fans cheered for the Detroit Heralds, but eventually the team was shut down. The Panthers appeared in their wake, but stayed just two seasons before folding as well. The Wolverines came next in 1928, but folded after only one year. In 1930, the Spartans were formed in Portsmouth, Ohio, and four seasons later, the team was purchased for almost $8 million and moved to Detroit.
As with many football teams of the era, they took their team-name from their hometown baseball team, in this case the Detroit Tigers. They decided to pick a different jungle cat to represent the team, the lion, which is now celebrated by their mascot, Roary. The team would change hands several times over the next few decades. Although the ownership changed, the passion of the fans did not. In the 1950s, the Lions won four division titles and three league championships, taking on Cleveland in several classic games. The team had a number of victories to celebrate in the 1990s. In 1991, they "restored the roar" by winning 12 regular season games, and by the end of the decade, the Lions had reached the playoffs six times.
Detroit Lions FansWhile the Lions would endure their share of up-and-down seasons, Lions fans maintained their loyalty. The 2000s proved to be an unkind era for Detroit, as they went 11 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance. However, with the arrival of quarterback Matthew Stafford in 2009, Detroit steadily saw improvements over the ensuing seasons, and in 2011, Lions fans were rewarded with a 10-6 regular season record and a playoff berth. The Lions look to build upon their previous seasons, and let their roar be heard throughout the jungle of the NFL. Get your Detroit Lions tickets now!
